My unexpected painting & me !

Sharad Tarde.

I don't think my feelings, ideas and composition have anything to do with drawing (artwork)!

Even after years and years of persistence, it seems that I don't know how to paint and there is a nagging sensation that something is always incomplete in the painting.

Having tuned yourself to the process of creating art, there is a misconception that every day there will be some kind of ‘innovation’ in the things you will paint, but nothing like that happens.

That’s when thoughts of self-doubt; that I don’t know anything in life, start popping up. Restlessness is at its peak.

As all these processes happen over and over again, I am learning to step back from the ideas and thoughts in my head when I try to sit with all the weapons in front of the canvas.

Then you feel the sliver of maybe we should attempt to do something. When you do start working unconsciously with the colors that are present at that moment, you realize that something different is happening, but even that thought needs to be settled immediately because it can throw you off track.

At that moment we only witness the work and keep on doing it. In such moments one should be able to keep aside the sense of an ‘artist’ that one feels too.

One cannot even claim the art as their own once it is produced through such a selfless process. Because as an artist if I opted out of the process then how can I claim the art as ‘mine’?

In this, my conscious mind stays away and solely bears witness to what happened, how it happened. The picture that emerges is truly unpredictable. At the time I was present and enjoying that process by giving it my utmost attention. I have not thought about the painting before it was made and yet, it will be something that was never done before and I will only be present at the moment observing as it happens.

These are my thoughts on abstract painting.
